"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness."
There should be no doubt that our Creator wants us to have these things and more. The problem is that our definition is so different from His definition that it robs us of His original intention. Each one of us has his own idea of how we would like to see the above statement fulfilled in our lives. Even at our very best, the quality of our life would come up short of what God wants for us. Let's take a look at what the Word of God says about life.
"He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal."
If anything in this life comes between you and God, then you could say that it would fit into the first part of verse 25. The First Commandment tells us not to have any God(s) before the one and true God. Are you someone who says that you love God? If so, you would understand His commandments. Clearly, we are not to set our minds on the things of this world, but rather on the higher things of God--especially if you want the kind of abundant life that He talks about in His Word. The source of true life, liberty, and happiness is God.
